Empowering Experts: A New Group of Sustainability Trainers Completes Training

We are thrilled to announce that a new group of international sustainability professionals has successfully completed the “From Expert to Trainer” course in April 2025! This edition was organized in collaboration with Mission Zero Academy, bringing together a vibrant and diverse group of participants from across Europe.

Led by experienced trainers Kadri Kalle (Zero Waste Estonia) and Anastasiia Martynenko (Health Care Without Harm Europe), the participants learned how to support people in understanding the complexity of sustainability related issues/challenges.

“This training changed how I think about learning. It helped me design truly effective learning experiences by understanding how people actually learn.”

Manon Jourdan, Zero Waste Europe

The course equips environmental professionals with the science and strategy of true learning – addressing a major gap: many experts know their content well, but few have been trained on how to teach it effectively.

The training journey began in February with an online kick-off session, followed by weekly interactive classes, self-study assignments, and peer collaboration. The experience culminated in three dynamic days in Brussels, where participants finally met in person, strengthened connections, and practiced their skills face-to-face.

“This course offers a fresh perspective on engaging learners through collaboration and participation. It’s much more than knowledge delivery – it’s knowledge co-creation.”

Martin Valese, Retorna.org

Designed with the principles of educational psychology and grounded in the Zero Waste Trainer Curriculum, this course focused on topics such as:

  • How memory and learning work;

  • Addressing learners’ misconceptions;

  • Creating motivating learning environments;

  • Teaching complex environmental topics effectively;

  • Assessing long-term learning outcomes.

“One of the most thoughtful and eye-opening trainings I’ve attended. The learning goes beyond the classroom and touches how we communicate in everyday life.”

Pierre Guerber, PADEM (Aid and Development Programs for the Children of the World)

Participants left the programme with a toolkit of principles, a deep understanding of how learning happens, and the confidence to lead impactful training sessions in their fields.

We congratulate all new graduates and look forward to seeing the ripple effect of their work as they inspire, educate, and empower others in the sustainability movement.

And we’re not stopping here!

🚀 The next Estonian-language group is open for registration!

🌍 And hopefully we’ll be sharing updates about the next English-language group very soon!

Whether you’re a sustainability expert, educator, or simply passionate about creating lasting impact, this training is a chance to take your teaching to a new level.
